My valued ACT Family and esteemed business executives, at a time marked with religious festivities and spiritual blessings, I would like to send my dearest greetings to all Christians and Muslims in celebration of Easter and Ramadan respectively. Moreover, I would like to express my pride to all the Egyptian ICT Community with regards to the efforts that are being exerted across multiple sectors that have been reflecting significant annual improvements to the contribution of the ICT Sector to Egypt’s GDP, making it the fastest growing sector in the country.
If that indicates something, it would be the continuous validation of the vision that we had 30 years ago, and the true realization of the valuable impact technology can have on individuals, companies and countries as well.
Over the course of my messages that have been included in previous ACT Magazine issues, I have tried sketching to you ACT’s Transformation Strategy 2020. One of the key pillars in our strategy has always been to synergize with the markets we operate in. This involves developing our solution portfolio through expanding our product mix with our existing vendors and developing more partnerships that would further ensure our competitiveness. This encouraged us to always research what are the future technology trends that are worth considering, that would have a positive impact on our existing and potential customers, in addition to the countries we operate in.
Accordingly, one of the common findings that has been intriguing me is digital technology. Today, digital technology is a strategic urgency for businesses and countries around the world. To ensure that we align with this trend, we have already begun a steady overhaul of digitally transforming our internal operations to optimize the way we work to ensure business agility for driving value faster, better and more efficiently. In addition, as mentioned earlier we are continuing to expand our products and services portfolio to enable our customers to be ready when they decide to digitally transform.
So, for us ‘Go Digital’ is not a choice, it’s a must to remain competitive in the everchanging and dynamic industry we are operating in. It has even extended to the marketing channels in which we communicate with our audience through. One of the key staple channels that ACT has been known for over the past 15 years or so is ACT Magazine. Over the years, ACT has released more than 50 periodical ACT Magazine issues, where we always aimed to update the market with the latest IT news, technologies and achievements. Throughout 2018, we conducted hundreds of surveys aiming to understand the channels in which our audience would like us to communicate with them through.
Unsurprisingly, our hypothesis was validated, as over 80% of our audience preferred to be reached through digital means. And that is why we facelifted our 18-year-old ACT Magazine, to be the first information technology digital magazine in Egypt. With ACT Magazine’s digital experience, our audience will now be able to interact with the content through flipping through different topics with a single click, viewing videos and not only text content and accessing source links to know more about topics they are interested in. This is a significant milestone for us and I am sure it is one of a kind versus the current market offerings. However, to me the most important feature in this issue is the digital survey in which you can complete at the end of the magazine, so we could understand how we can further deliver a better experience to you.
Finally, I would like to highlight that the coming period there are several big initiatives that ACT is planning to realize in the local and global market. I would like to wish the whole ACT team the best of luck and express the motivation and drive I have for the coming period to achieve great things together.

ACT organized “ACT Azure Stack Event” on 28th of February, 2019 at the Nile Ritz-Carlton in line with its continuous dedication to provide customers with the latest business technology innovations.
In line with its strong partnership with HP and HPE, ACT organized a sohour event for its strategic partners and customers, taking place on 22 May, 2019 at Le Deck Resaurant in Sofitel El Gezirah. Overlooking the stunning Nile panorama by the night, the event held a festive vibes midst an environment of business networking and recognition of long-standing relationships.
With strong creed in women empowerment, ACT has signed an agreement with GIZ regional program, collaborating for a joint gender diversity program in alignment with GIZ “Economic Integration of Women in the MENA Region” (EconoWin). The agreement was signed on Tuesday 21st of January 2019, at the German-Arab Chamber of Industry and Commerce, and instates a one-year-long collaboration to increase the share of female employment in ACT and maximizing their potentials.
Committed to social responsibility, ACT organized delightful festivities at an elderly charity home to celebrate Mother’s Day on 21 March, 2019. ACT volunteers participated to bring joy and happiness to the elderly during their visit by just spending time talking, laughing and sharing stories. On the other hand, this opportunity also allowed ACT volunteers to connect with the society and develop compassion through investing their time to listen, show interest and understand elderly people’s lifestyles, needs and challenges. The initiative posed meaningful positive impact and intrinsic benefits gained for both sides, the elderly and ACT’s volunteers.
In the spirit of Orphan’s Day, ACT organized a full-festivities day for orphans with ACT volunteers and family members on 6 April, 2019. The event included entertainment activities, games and gifts for orphans in Emad Ragheb’s orphanage.
As part of our corporate social responsibility to encourage voluntary and social participation during the holy month of Ramadan, ACT distributed Ramadan Bags in “El-Matraya” to underprivileged families with the purpose of helping them with basic food supplies. Global Catering Services – known as GCS – is one of the largest and fastest growing food inspired companies in the UAE, serving as a significant F&B retail, manufacturing and wholesale arm of the parent company. GCS started its celebrated journey with the acquisition and launch of renowned restaurants and eateries, solidifying its position as an important culinary landmark and an indispensable part of the food & beverage arena in the UAE ever since its inception.
Since its establishment, GCS has successfully positioned itself as a leader and an industry expert in the F&B retail, manufacturing, wholesale and distribution sectors with a total of 11 distinguished brands under one umbrella, from single-owner-managed restaurants to national and international chains in the UAE and the MENA region.
With a continuous vision for expansion and success, GCS encountered a pressing need for a premiere cloud integrated POS to maximize its revenue by supporting multiple concepts within a single enterprise. To name a few, GCS was keen to provide efficient table service, quick-service, take-out, retail, minimize IT complexity and IT cost by having one central system for all operations that will give them access to real-time financial results from anywhere in the world. In addition, GCS needed a creative solution for promotions execution to see their impact on financial results, while being able to compare the latter between locations and against its budget and history, while having access to data remotely to ensure menu and pricing consistency globally and within a country, a region or a single location.
Committed to operations’ efficiency, GCS was also looking for workflow management simplification to maintain inventories’ cost efficiency with access to inventory count reporting variances, cost of goods sold, stock of hand and food cost.
In turn, replacing the restaurants’ previous rudimentary POS and inventory systems with a secure, robust intuitive solution was inevitable, especially utilizing a solution compatible with other technologies and supporting the intense daily activities of each restaurant.
A prime focus was also shed on the importance of reliable Oracle Hospitality support partner that can provide GCS with flawless aftersales support covering all areas of support expertise to ensure GCS staff are trained and equipped to consistently deliver excellent service. In addition, GCS needed to streamline office, accounting, and operations-based activities, while making back-ups easier through applications that don’t need to run over desktop but only reliant on internet connections. Finally, one of the big challenges facing GCS was also using barcodes for weighted items in their retail business.
ACT successfully addressed GCS business needs and challenges by proposing Oracle Simphony Cloud base for POS and inventory management for comprehensive procurement, inventory, and cost-control system that provides essential data, including cost of sales, effective revenue, stock on hand, order proposals, and stocking requirements in real time.
With centralized access to near real-time data for inventory levels and values, historical physical counts, vendor and item purchase history as an integrated solution for front office operation and back office, the implementation of cloud-based POS platform, Simphony Cloud, fully integrated point-of-sale and back-office systems – enabling GCS to reduce the cost and complexity of IT.

With regular upgrades in place, accelerating innovation to capitalize on every business opportunity was facilitated for GCS, enabling barcode operation handling of weighted items for retail business dealing with 15,000 items for one important GCS brand, Lebanese Roster.
